Traditionally, Module 2 of the DELTA was the one module that had to be taken in the classroom. This is because it involves several teaching practice and observation components, which had to be assessed by an accredited DELTA tutor onsite. However, this has changed in recent years, as the demand for flexible, online courses has opened the way for an online DELTA Module 2 course that can be taken from anywhere in the world.
Module 2 focuses on developing awareness and expertise in the principles and professional practice of teaching English in a range of contexts.
While DELTA Module 2 can be studied by distance from wherever you are based, you will need to find a qualified, local tutor to help guide and assess you throughout the course. You will also need to find an external Cambridge assessor to monitor some of your lessons, however, your DELTA tutor and accredited centre can help you organise this once you apply for the course.
You’ll find more information on selecting a local tutor for your DELTA online module 2 course under each accredited centre section below.
How will the DELTA module input sessions and teaching practice be organised?
Each school has different timetables depending on the format of the course – face-to-face, mixed, or 100% online. There are intensive and part-time DELTA module options. Have a look at the calendar of DELTA Module start dates.
About the DELTA Module 2 Course Content
This module focuses on developing awareness and expertise in the principles and professional practice of teaching English in a range of contexts.
Assignment 1: Professional Development Assignment
The assignment has two parts:
- Reflection and Action (2,000–2,500 words)
- Experimental Practice (1,500–2,000 words).
Assignments 2, 3: Language Systems Assignments
Each Language Systems Assignment includes:
- a background essay (2,000–2,500 words) about an area of language systems and related teaching and learning issues
- planning, teaching and evaluation of a lesson related to the chosen area.
Assignments 4, 5: Two Language Skills Assignments
Each Language Skills Assignment includes:
- background essay (2,000–2,500 words) about an area of language skills and related teaching and learning issues
- planning, teaching and evaluation of a lesson related to the chosen area.
Assessment: Module Two is assessed by a portfolio of coursework, including background essays, observed lessons and a professional development assignment. You will complete five assignments, which all contribute to the final grade.
How to Choose an Accredited DELTA Module 2 Centre
While the courses listed here are 100% online, your DELTA tutor and the centre that is accredited by Cambridge English Language Assessment to run the course are in a specific, physical location. You should choose which accredited centre to take the course through based on several factors, such as time zones, dates, the intensity of each course, and its structure. A further explanation about the accredited centre can be found below.
You do not have to attend the accredited centre to take the online DELTA course; it can be taken by distance from anywhere in the world.

The Online DELTA Module 2
How it works
The online DELTA Module 2 course can be undertaken from wherever you’re based, without the need to travel anywhere for an ‘orientation’ or face-to-face sessions. For teachers who are currently working far from a registered DELTA training centre, this is the most convenient option.
The theoretical part of the course takes place online, on a learning platform called Moodle. You work online to complete the written assignments with personalised feedback from your online tutor.
Then, the practical element happens in your own school with your own students. Therefore, it is important that you are teaching when you undertake this version of module 2.
You will also need to find a Regional DELTA tutor (RDT) to help you through the course. This can be a senior staff member or someone with training experience; so long as the teacher training centre running the online Module 2 course approves this person, they will pay them for this work and give them a full induction to work with you.
Finally, one of your classes will also need to be assessed by a Cambridge ESOL registered external assessor at some point near the end of the course. This is something the teacher training centre running the online Module 2 course will organise, although the candidate has to pay travel costs for international travel.

DELTA Accredited Centres
While the courses listed on StudyCELTA are fully online, your DELTA tutor and the accredited centre for running the course are in a specific location. You should choose the centre that will run your course based on time zones, dates, and the intensity of each course.

DELTA Online or Face-to-face, the recognition is the same
The requirements are the same as taking a DELTA module in another format.
However, with the course being completely online, it is a requirement if you have the following:
a) A working laptop or desktop computer with a microphone and speakers
b) A secure internet connection
c) A designated and comfortable working space at home

How do I apply for the DELTA?
- Access the online application form
- Select ‘DELTA online’ and your module in the course type drop down
- Choose the accredited centre
- Select your desired course dates
- Fill out your basic information and submit the form
- Finally, one of our DELTA admissions officers will be in touch with the application documents for you to fill out
Alternatively, you can contact us and let us know which module, course date and accredited centre you’re interested in, and a DELTA admissions officer will be in touch with the application documents.
Minimum Entry Requirements for the DELTA Modules
The DELTA Course is intended for experienced teachers. Meaning teachers who wish to extend their professional experience and accept new responsibilities. The DELTA does not only demonstrates a commitment to the profession but also proof of ability.
It is open to people from all language backgrounds. All participants must have native speaker proficiency, written and spoken, that enables them to follow the course and complete all assessed and non-assessed elements successfully.
Ideally, applicants should:
- have at least one years’ full time (1,200 hours) experience of teaching English to a variety of levels within the past five years.
- be able to prove a range of teaching experience in different contexts and at different levels.
- be a graduate and have an initial teaching qualification (i.e. CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent)
- have a standard of English which will enable you to teach at a range of levels (native-speaker proficiency, such as C2, CPE or IELTS 8+)
We may still accept applicants if they do not strictly meet these requirements but can demonstrate that they would be likely to complete the course successfully. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, get in contact with one of our DELTA experts or take our DELTA eligibility test to get more information.
