Ankara and Surroundings
Ankara, the stunning capital of Turkey, offers a mix of modern and historical sites to visit! It is a unique opportunity for those who wish to find out more about Turkish culture and architecture with plenty to see and do while you are in the city. Historical sites include Ankara Castle, which dates back more than 3000 years and is considered one of the top places to visit in Ankara. When you visit the castle, you get to see the Roman theatre and the walls, which is one of the oldest sites in Ankara. Although walking up the hill to the castle is a work-out in itself, the view is definitely worth it!
The Museum of Antolian Civilizations again is a hotspot for history buffs! The museum was established in 1921 and has a collection of antiques from eras such as the stone and bronze age.
If you take the train into Ankara, you will notice the Ferris wheel which is situated in Gençlik Park. This public park is unlike most parks you may have come across, as there are over 69 acres of greenery, an open-air theatre, two miniatures trains and a swimming pool -- so it's definitely a place to get a dose of nature and entertainment!
The city is also home to many festivals, such as the Ankara Music Festival and the International Cartoon Festival, both respectively take place in April, and the International Dance Festival, which is in December.
It's a city that offers plenty of things to do and it's worth spending an extra week in it once you have completed your teacher training course to enjoy some much-needed downtime!
