What to expect in Barletta, Italy
Situated in the south-eastern region of Italy, Barletta (in Puglia) sits on the picturesque Adriatic coast and is home to some beautiful beaches. The small city is home to just under 100,000 people, so there is plenty of life, without the chaotic feel that sometimes accompanies larger cities.
With the city thought to be established around the 4th Century, Barletta offers a plethora of historic places and architecture. One such building is The Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre (not to be confused with the basilica in Jerusalem!), which is the main church in Barletta, featuring stunning Gothic architecture.
A must, while you are staying in Barletta, is their ancient castle, which lies in the heart of the city. This castle was founded amongst the Norman conquest of Italy in the 11th Century and famously home to the "Disfida” (Challenge of Barletta).
