When identifying the right CELTA course format, there are lots of factors to take into account. Do you want to take the CELTA in-person in the centre or is an online course best for you? Do you want to combine the experience with a mixed mode course? If you are considering online, would you like to get qualified ASAP or in one solid month with an online full-time CELTA? Or fit the CELTA around other commitments with the part-time online CELTA? If you are considering a face-to-face CELTA, are you looking at a course locally and are you fine with the travel considerations? What about a visa? Would you like the in-person dynamics and experience that that the face-to-face course offers? So many questions and things to consider. With this in mind, we examine how to find and choose the best CELTA course format for you!

The most popular online format: The positives and negatives of an online part-time CELTA course

The most popular option for candidates looking to take an online CELTA, the online part-time courses allows you to continue your life while fitting the CELTA course around it. There are a wide number of courses available in different time zones, with courses ranging significantly in terms of total weeks, from around eight weeks to more than 20 weeks. All CELTA courses will have the same amount of required input, you are just spreading this out. You can choose the course which has the times and dates that suit you best, so if you are only free on the weekend, you can look for a course that has its required sessions then for example. The course length reduces potential course stress, but it does mean it will take longer for you to get qualified. Please note, for all online CELTA courses, you can take the course via any location in the world, it doesn’t need to be in the same country you are in, or even the same continent!

Online full-time CELTA courses

If you want to take the CELTA from the comfort of your own home and only have a short window of time to take your CELTA course, then the online full-time course could be right for you. The courses usually run between Monday and Friday, but some will be Sunday to Thursday and others may only be four days-a-week and a five-week course. Like the online part-time course option, the best place to look is the online CELTA page. From there you can choose the best time zone for you and see the different courses available (scroll down for the online full-time courses). Remember, for the online full-time and the online part-time CELTA courses, you don’t need to select a course in the same time zone you are currently in. You simply need to be available to take the course at the required hours (so it could be a case of checking the time differences for a course).

An experience over in one month, but memories to last a lifetime! The full-time face-to-face CELTA course

The traditional format to take the CELTA course, the full-time face-to-face option continues to be highly popular. It is the option for candidates who have the urge to travel and experience a new location at the same time as getting CELTA-qualified. The in-person CELTA course taken in four (occasionally five) weeks can be combined with travel before or after the course, to make the experience complete. It is also a great option for local candidates, who can commute in every day. Remember, travelling in every day, can be mentally and physically draining, so we would not recommend much more than an hour’s commute each way. For those who are looking to travel to a new location, remember to think about visas, if required. Everyone’s personal circumstances are different, so we can’t advise on visas. Also, remember, whichever country you take your CELTA course in, the CELTA course is always taught 100 percent in English, so don’t worry about being fluent in the language of your chosen location! We have locations around the world that offer CELTA courses, so a good place to start looking is our CELTA locations page.

Local to the area? Want to fit the course around life? The part-time face-to-face CELTA course

One of the less popular CELTA course formats now, but still a good option for some, is the face-to-face part time course. Like the full-time face-to-face course, you will still have to take visa considerations into account, but you will also need to consider the length of the course if you need a visa. The part-time face-to-face CELTA is less common than other course formats, and there are only a certain number of locations that offer this. They tend to be larger cities and urban areas. The best place to check for these would probably be the CELTA calendar (just click on the dark green ‘Face-to-Face Part-Time’ button to just see these courses).

Best of both worlds! CELTA Mixed Mode

For candidates who wish to experience elements of the online CELTA course and the face-to-face experience during the same CELTA course, the Mixed Mode CELTA course is the one for you. Like the part-time face-to-face CELTA, the Mixed Mode CELTA is only offered by a limited number of locations. The best place to check for these would probably be the CELTA calendar (just click on the turquoise ‘Mixed Mode’ button to just see these courses).

Weighing it all up – then choose the best CELTA format for you!

Once you have looked at the different CELTA options available, the next step would be to decide which course is ideal for you. You will need to weigh up the different factors, to come to the best option. Every CELTA candidate is different. You could find it beneficial to even write down the pros and cons of your options. When you are ready, you can click on the ‘Apply‘ button to apply and see details of the right course for you. On our website you can click on the ‘Select a course’ magnifying glass for the 5 Step process to find the right course for you too!
