Cairo and Surroundings

Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is where old and new meet and is a city that has something to offer for everyone.  Of course, it is a history buff's paradise as you can see Egypt's ancient history with the world-famous Pyramids of Giza (which are also located close to the CELTA centre!). The Egyptian museum is also a must-visit as it is home to the most important collection of ancient artefacts, such as the treasures of Pharaohs like Tutankhamun.

There is also Heliopolis, once a major city of ancient Egypt and the place where Plato studied, is now a northeast suburb of Cairo and is the perfect place to escape the tourists and go for a walk. It is also home of the obelisk of  Sesostris I, one of the earliest surviving obelisks and one of the few remaining landmarks of the ancient city of Heliopolis.

Visit the narrow lanes of Khan Al Khalili, a medieval market that offers a range of good and is perfect for holiday souvenirs.
