With masters degrees in International Relations and Gender studies, I thought I had seen it all when it came to handling challenging courses. However, I was in for a surprise with the CELTA course. The course started gently on the first day but we moved quickly from observing from our tutors to preparing, observing and being observed. The pace was challenging, alternating between preparing teaching, observing, reflecting and listening to feedback on our lessons. Incredible! Truly like a roller coaster!
My fellow CELTA trainees were from other countries but we bonded like a family and worked together, helping each other where help was needed and always talking to each other.
Our Tutors fulfilled the top five qualities of an effective tutor. Both of them were the best trainers I have ever had. They built trusting relationships with us. They were caring and patient with kind personalities. They were sensitive to our learning needs, dedicated to teaching and were always ready to engage us in learning. They were a true reflection of Alexandra K. Trenfor’s famous statement about a great teacher: The best teachers are those who show you where to look but don’t tell you what to see”. They were simply the best.
I recommend this course a million times!
