What is the difference between TEFL and CELTA?

TEFL or TESOL is the umbrella term used for a Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language qualification. There are many different types of courses and qualifications out there that are labelled as TEFL or TESOL.

CELTA is a type of TEFL or TESOL course. The certificate is highly regarded in English language teaching because of the hands-on teaching practice a candidate will experience.

The CELTA is accredited by Cambridge Assessment (a part of the world-renowned University of Cambridge) and is standardised. This means that no matter where you take the course, it will adhere to the same quality and guidelines.

Where can I take a CELTA course?

You can only take a CELTA at an accredited centre or online through an accredited centre – and there are many over the world. All StudyCELTA’s partner schools are authorised to offer the CELTA on behalf of Cambridge Assessment English.
