Wroclaw and Surroundings

How do you say ‘Wroclaw’? if you’re familiar with the international phonetic alphabet, it looks something like this: /ˈvrɒtswəf/. For everyone else, it’s pronounced like ‘Vrots-wav’. The historical city of Wroclaw is a fantastic location to take a training course. This dynamic, charming place truly has something for everyone. You will want to come back to enjoy it properly once your course is over! Having absorbed Bohemian, Austrian and Prussian influences, the city has a unique architectural and cultural make-up, symbolised by its magnificent market square (Rynek) with its ancient town hall surrounded by brightly decorated houses. Some say it is the most beautiful Rynek in Poland. In the hot summer months, this is the ideal place to sit at one of the many open-air cafes. Wroclaw’s location on the Odra River, with its 12 islands, 130 bridges and riverside parks, is idyllic, and the beautifully preserved Cathedral Island is a treat for lovers of Gothic architecture. But Wrocław is not just a pretty face. It is Poland’s fourth-largest city and the major industrial, commercial and educational centre for the region; virtually everything in southwestern Poland starts, finishes or is taking place in Wroclaw. At the same time, it’s a lively cultural centre, with several theatres, major festivals, rampant nightlife and a large student community. Within easy reach of Wroclaw by bus or train are peaceful rural walking trails, excellent winter ski slopes and the major cities of Prague, Berlin, Krakow and Budapest. Today, Wroclaw is a prosperous cultural and economic centre and any fun-loving, culture seeking teacher should be able to find something here to satisfy his or her tastes. You can also find out more information on Wroclaw though the city's official tourism website. [parent] => 1929 [count] => 3 [filter] => raw ) )
