Kowloon and surroundings

Located directly north of Hong Kong Island across Victoria Harbour, Kowloon is a large, bustling city, full of life and activity. The city is the largest in Hong Kong and is home to more than two million people, with a high population density (more than 100,000 per square mile). Chock full of shops and restaurants, Kowloon is heaven for lovers of East Asian cuisine, as alongside the wide range of delicious Hong Kong-style food venues are others, such as Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese. Be sure to check out the Temple Street Night Market, a sensory treat of food, shopping and entertainment that comes alive when the sun goes down.

Kowloon is also rich with history, over 2,000 years in the making and still with a distinct character following the 99-year lease to the British that only ended in 1997. The serene Kowloon Walled City Park is a beautiful place to unwind, situated where once stood the wild world of Kowloon Walled City until it was demolished in the 1990s. The area is also replete with historic temples dedicated to Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, with Wong Tai Sin Temple one of many worth a visit.
