The school is strategically located, within 5 minutes’ walk from Oxford Circus Station. The school has good facilities such as library and cafeteria. Being a vegetarian, I specially appreciate the fact that the cafeteria offers good choice of vegetarian meals. The cafeteria conductors were also pleasant and very welcoming.
All the teachers conducting our class were professional , experienced, supportive and understanding. They are supported further by good administrative team, librarians and other support staff. The experienced teachers whom we observed were also excellent in welcoming us into their class. They gave us an insight to various techniques of teaching skills of various levels and background of students.
The course was very intensive and demanding. This is where supportive, understanding and empathetic trainers and the administration were of great help. The trainers did an excellent job in assuring us guidance throughout the course; especially in putting up with the extremely demanding course schedule. Graham, one of the administrators is worthy being mentioned here. He always has an ear to student issues and problems and endeavours to help within his means.
The coursework and how it was built and developed to achieve the CELTA criteria was excellent. Sufficient supporting materials were given as handouts, visuals and audios. The teaching practice sessions were the best take home from this course. The sessions which gave us live experience, observed, guided and coached by our trainers were priceless. The assignment were the other outputs that greatly prepare us for the teaching challenges.
The idea to give us an insight into the challenges of teaching beginners by turning our whole class in to beginners’ class for Japanese language is one of the brilliant examples where the CELTA team was creative in engaging and educating us.
Overall it was a lifetime experience that we would never forget. The CELTA course was an eye opener to new methodology of teaching skills, delivered in a compact but very effective way. Of course, I would introduce the CELTA course to many of my contacts and friends who may appreciate similar endeavours especially via London Soho which provided us excellent experience and platform in pursuing the course.
