Guadalajara and Surroundings

Guadalajara is Mexico’s second city. It is the birthplace of many things for which Mexico is recognised on an international level.  Tequila and Mariachi music both have their routes in the state of Jalisco. During your stay, you can sample both the old and the new, from nearby archaeological sites to the historic downtown and famous cathedral to the bustling shopping malls such as ‘Plaza Andares’ and ‘Plaza Galerias’. At the ‘hospicio cabañas’ a series of monumental frescoes depicting Mexico’s revolution brings the history of the city to life.

If arts and crafts are your thing, why not while away many an hour in the markets and stores of Tlaquepaque and Tonalá? In the neighbourhoods of Chapultepec and the Colonia Americana, you can enjoy a bohemian atmosphere, with many great restaurants and watering holes to refresh you after a long day’s study.

Guadalajara has a very vibrant nightlife and social scene; the weather is perfect, never dropping below 10 degrees celsius at night and maxing out at 35 in the summer and 25 in the winter; it is relatively close to the beach and surrounded by forests and mountain ranges; there are a lot of job opportunities for teachers of English once they have completed their CELTA.
