About the City of Bergamo

The alpine city of Bergamo is the fourth-largest city in Lombardy (in northern Italy) and the second most visited city in Lombardy after Milan, from which it is only 30 miles away. Some of its main features include the medieval Città Alta ('Upper Town') the Renaissance Piazza Vecchia (Old Square), the Santa Maria Maggiore Cathedral and the Pinacoteca Carrara with paintings by Raphael, Mantegna, and Bellini to mention a few.

The Venetian Walls surrounding the Upper Town date back to the 16th century and are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Città Alta's narrow alleys you will also find many independent boutiques, cafes, trattorias, and wine bars.

More information about Bergamo and its surroundings can be found at Bergamo's official tourism website.
