The Director of the teacher training centre in Galway, Mary Grennan, BA, DELTA, MSc TESOL, is a very experienced CELTA and DELTA tutor and assessor. Mary has been involved with teacher training since 1998 and she is an inspector of language schools and teacher training centres for the following awarding bodies: Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services (EAQUALS) and Quality Qualifications Ireland (QQI), the National national body which awards recognition to language schools and teacher training centres in Ireland.  Mary also sits on the advisory board of QQI. For the teacher training centre in Galway, quality in language and teacher training is a key element.

The campus building, with the sail-shaped copper panels, has become one of Galway’s iconic landmarks. This college offers a wide variety of courses in the areas of business, science, engineering and tourism, as well as the Distance DELTA Orientation Course.

Facilities of the Teacher Training Centre in Galway:

The Galway teacher training centre overlooks Galway Bay. The campus has a large, well-lit library, where you will have access to resources such as grammar books, course books and journals. There is also an IT library, where you have access to a large number of computers. However, you are advised to bring a laptop with you as you will need one to work at home and also during the day if you prefer not to use the IT library.

There is a sports and fitness centre at the college.

Parking is available on campus. Full banking facilities are also available. At the Students’ Union shop, you can buy newspapers, stationery and refreshments.

There is a wide variety of options available for meals:

  • The Food Zone serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and refreshments
  • The Espresso Bar offers different beverages, pastries and scones and sandwiches
  • The Café Foyer, which overlooks Galway Bay, offers coffee, tea, juice and soup, as well as pastries and scones, as well as sandwiches and fruit

During your course centre aims to provide you with a high-quality course that equips you with the skills needed to become a successful English language teacher.

The Teacher Training Centre has a recruitment service and CELTA qualified teachers from this campus are very well placed to apply for available positions. There is a lot of scope for career advancement within this Teacher Training Centre and following the CELTA, teachers can continue and study for the DELTA in order to advance into school management positions.
