Belfast and Surroundings

Belfast was named one of its Best of the World Must-See Places for 2012, describing the city as “a capital that is redefining itself in the eyes of the world”.(National Geographic Traveler Nov 2011)

The best things come in small packages, and Belfast is packed with culture, history, exciting events and festivals, great food, fantastic shopping, and world-class craic! The people make the place, they say, and that’s definitely true in Belfast. People are open, warm and friendly, and visitors are made welcome wherever they go. Belfast has plenty to discover and something for everyone: beautiful green areas and countryside, hills, rivers and parks – all easily accessible from the heart of the city; fantastic metropolitan shopping areas; a vibrant and exciting nightlife in our world-famous pubs and clubs; some of the best restaurants in Ireland; and a rich live music scene.

When you explore our dramatic coastlines, rolling fields and lush mountains, you’ll see that Northern Ireland is home to some of the most beautiful and unspoiled scenery in Europe. From the breathtaking scenery of the world-famous Giant’s Causeway (Ireland’s first UNESCO World Heritage site), the Antrim coast and glens, Mountains of Mourne, the Marble Arch Caves and Lough Neagh (the largest lake in the British Isles), to the Fermanagh Lakelands, dotted with tiny islands, wooded parks and monastic ruins, and our iconic visitor attractions such as the Titanic Experience and the Ulster Folk Museum- these gems of Northern Ireland are all within easy reach of Belfast and are not to be missed! Get active and do more than just admire the view: make Northern Ireland your playground. You will find many great activities and outdoor pursuits such as hiking, fishing, sailing, canoeing, surfing, horse-riding and golf.
