Information about Delta Courses in Izmir

Cambridge Delta Course Recognition and Career Directions

The Cambridge Delta is an internationally recognised qualification for experienced teachers of English wanting to open up career avenues to more senior ELT posts for which the Delta is invariably required. The Delta Scheme lays great emphasis on the integration of practical classroom approaches with a thorough understanding of language systems and learning theories.  The scheme provides unique opportunities for effective, practical classroom training combined with professional education in the underlying theories and principles of language and language learning.

Teachers who complete the Delta can transfer credit to postgraduate courses at a range of Universities.

The employment areas that are open to you after completing a Delta are:

  • Director of Studies
  • CELTA and Delta teacher trainer
  • Head of Department

More importantly, you receive comprehensive professional development in your core skill teaching English as a Second Language. The Delta course will challenge you and broaden your horizons through exposing you to current thinking in TESOL.

Recommended Reading

These books are often on the recommended reading list to help with Delta applications, during the course and as a core reference library for English language teachers.

Minimum Entry Requirements

The Delta Course is intended for experienced teachers wishing to extend their professional experience and accept new responsibilities, as it not only demonstrates a commitment to the profession, but is also proof of ability. It is open to people from all language backgrounds. All participants must have native speaker proficiency, both written and spoken, that enables them to follow the course and complete all assessed and non-assessed elements successfully.Ideally applicants should:

  1. have at least two years' full time (1,200 hours) experience of teaching English to adults within the past five years.
  2. have a range of teaching experience in different contexts and at different levels.
  3. be a graduate and have an initial teaching qualification.
  4. have a standard of English which will enable you to teach at a range of levels.

We may still accept applicants if they do not strictly meet all of these requirements but can demonstrate that they would be likely to complete the course successfully. If you're unsure about your eligibility, get in contact with one of our Delta experts, who will assess your profile and let you know if you can apply.

How are the different Delta modules assessed?

Module One:

A written exam of two 90-minute papers.

Module Two:

Portfolio of coursework including a professional development assignment, background essays and assessed teaching practice. As well as observing lessons, you will prepare, teach and evaluate four lessons - one is externally assessed by a Cambridge English assessor.

Module Three:

Extended written assignment focused on your chosen specialist area of teaching (Option 1) or your chosen ELT management specialism (Option 2).

Take your teaching career to the next level

Are you already teaching English to non-native speakers? Delta is a flexible and extensively recognised qualification suitable for first language and non-first language speakers of English working in primary, secondary and adult contexts. It can help you develop as a teacher and progress to bigger and better career opportunities.

Module Two: 6-week Intensive

The summer intensive course is ideal for teachers who want to immerse themselves in the Delta. It's full-time and challenging but brings with it huge rewards. Module 2, taken part-time, requires a lot of arranging and coordinating with tutors and assessors. With the summer intensive, everything is done for you (except the teaching, of course). The course runs for 6 weeks Monday to Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Module One: 2-week Intensive Preparation Course

The Module One course in Izmir will help you understand the format of the exam and what Cambridge is expecting from you. To help work around the busy lives of teachers, the 2-week intensive runs only in the evening. You will have lots of opportunities to practise and receive feedback on your performance which will give you confidence to walk into the exam room in December.

Module 3 Part-time

The part-time Module 3 program gives you the knowledge and support you'll need to complete your assignment before the December submission. Working online with tutors who can read, comment and guide your assignment is essential for those hoping to get through the process as smoothly as possible.
