With the town thought to be established around 4th Century, Barletta offers a plethora of historic places and architecture. One such building is the The Basilica of the Holy Sepulchr (not to be confused with basilica in Jerusalem!), which is the main church in Barletta, featuring stunning Gothic architecture. A must while you are staying in Barletta is their ancient castle, which lies in the heart of the town. This castle was founded amongst the Norman conquest of Italy in the 11th Century and famously home to to the "disfida” (challenge of Barletta).
