Who Can Take the Cambridge Delta in Turin?

The Delta diploma and its course modules are suited for native and non-native English speakers working in primary, secondary and adult areas of TEFL/TESOL looking to further progress their careers. This qualification is ideal for those wanting to specialise in their career and improve their skills, or for those who want to move on to different areas within the sector such as Director of Studies or Teacher Training. Most candidates who apply for Delta require to have an initial TEFL certificate such as the Cambridge CELTA and at least one year's full-time English teaching work experience.

Advantages of Taking a Delta:

By taking Delta, you will:

  • extend your knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of English language teaching
  • critically examine your current beliefs and practices as a teacher
  • apply your new knowledge and understanding to your current teaching role
  • extend your knowledge of English language teaching in contexts other than adult learners
  • receive an internationally recognised, highly respected advanced-level teaching certificate

What are the different modules and how are they assessed?

Although the teacher training centre offers an integrated course, Delta is made up of three independent modules. You will receive a certificate and credit for each module you pass, and an overall certificate when you have passed all three modules. Each module focuses on a different aspect of language teaching:

Module One – Understanding language, methodology and resources for teaching

This module consists of a written exam of two 90-minute papers which focuses on the background to teaching and learning English in a range of contexts. Our integrated course provides input sessions covering all the relevant topics as well as exam strategies and practice to ensure success.

Module Two – Developing professional practice

This module focuses on the principles and practice of planning and teaching and consists of a portfolio of coursework including a professional development assignment, background essays and assessed teaching practice. As well as observing lessons, you will prepare, teach and evaluate four lessons – one is externally assessed by a Cambridge English assessor.

Module Three – English language teaching or management specialism

This module consists of an extended written assignment focused on your chosen specialist area of teaching or your chosen ELT management specialism.
