CELTA Review Auckland, New Zealand

"CELTA is a great program for anyone who is considering a career change"

Linsien Setiani Tan , Indonesia
5/5

Since a long time ago, I have always wanted to have a fulfilling career that is related to languages. So I thought of switching my career from Engineering to English Teaching. I realized that I need to equip myself with a proper background education before I could go out there and change my career path. That’s when I stumbled upon the StudyCELTA website.

It took me almost 4 years to finally decide on taking this CELTA course. After gathering all the information I needed and reading every single testimonial in the website, I was so certain that taking CELTA was the best way for me to get the basic practical experience in the shortest time. However, as a non-native English speaker with zero teaching experience in a classroom setting, I was in doubt. I knew that it was an intensive and difficult course, so I wasn’t sure if I could get into the program and pass it. I procrastinated for as long as I can until I took the leap in November. I passed the interview and opted to go for CELTA in Auckland, New Zealand for the following year.

So the following November, I finally did it. It was completely worth it. Everything about the course has been an eye-opener. I thoroughly enjoyed every single aspect; from the morning tutorials with live demonstrations by experienced ESL teachers to the feedback session after each Teaching Practice session. This course is filled with fun and useful lessons.

In four weeks, I taught 2 different levels of English learners, Pre-Intermediate & Upper Intermediate students. Through these nerve-wrecking lessons, I learned more about my teaching style and how to always focus on the learners’ needs when preparing for a lesson.

CELTA is a great program for anyone who is considering a career change to English Language teaching. Either a native or non-native English speakers can learn a lot from this intensive 4-week course. I learned how to do a proper lesson plan, how to adapt my teaching materials with the available resources and how to build a great rapport in a classroom filled with students of different nationalities. It has helped me get a glimpse of what it’s like to be an English teacher and further decide on my next step.

I’m starting out as a part-time English teacher first before making the complete switch to English teaching in the next two years. Wish me luck and thank you StudyCELTA!
