Completing the CELTA course was one of the most intense things I’ve ever done, and it required a lot of energy and enthusiasm, but it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It has opened up a whole new world for me and prepared me for a life in the ESL industry.
The tutors on the course were incredibly helpful and supportive throughout everything. They were constantly available for feedback, planning help and assistance with the portfolio tasks. During the course, we were able to teach a good mix of students and levels. The diversity of learners helped put into practice techniques that we had learnt and allowed us to develop our teaching practice over the 4 weeks.
The teacher training centre in Palermo is a really beautiful school and all the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. The school is very well equipped and full of useful resources to use throughout the course. They even helped me in finding a job afterwards. A big plus was their host family accommodation, which I found amazing during such an intense course – plus it was a great way to eat a lot of delicious Sicilian food!
A highlight for me was the city of Palermo; it’s a little slice of heaven and an excellent place to explore outside of the CELTA sessions. I loved spending my off-time exploring the city, local beaches and the surrounding towns!
After the CELTA, I began working at a Scuola Media in Palermo and have continued teaching there. The qualification has been incredibly useful in securing work and delivering interesting and effective lessons to my students. I think it’s a great way to enter into the ESL world, develop your teaching skills and open up doors all around the world.
