These courses are 100% online and do not require face-to-face attendance
The CELTA trainees will be doing the teaching practice with real students online.
You will use two platforms that the school will advise you of.
Due to the current global pandemic, the CELTA can now temporarily be taken fully Online for the first time ever. There's no need to put your teaching career on hold, you can take the CELTA from the comfort of your own home.
You can apply for your fully online course through the following CELTA centres in the East Asia-Pacific region:
The main difference will concern the teaching practice element, you will complete it online via a video conferencing tool, such as Zoom. Input and planning sessions will still take place, via Moodle and live sessions.
The CELTA Tutors will teach the same content. The requirement of 6 hours of teaching practice will remain the same, assessed and moderated by a qualified CELTA tutor. Four written assignments will need to be submitted at the end of the online course.
Accessibility: There's no need to worry about travel arrangements or costs - all you need is your screen, video conferencing tools and a comfortable work space!
Experience Online Teaching: As CELTA traditionally runs in a classroom, this new course type offers the added bonus of providing an insight into online teaching. This could be useful for teaching English online in the future. If you want to find out more about Teaching English online see ELTcampus Support for Teaching English Online resources bundle
An internationally recognised TEFL qualification: CELTA is the golden standard of TEFL qualifications and most reputable schools look for this certificate when hiring. A CELTA will never expire and show recruiters that you understand the core principles and methodologies of teaching English as a second language.
No, just as with CELTA Online Blended courses, your certificate will not show the location or format in which you took the CELTA. It states that you have completed it and it will be awarded by Cambridge English Language Assessment (belonging to the University of Cambridge).
The requirements are the same as for taking a face-to-face CELTA. These include:
It’s also important that you have access to the following at home:
There are a few steps to applying for a CELTA course.
Firstly – make sure you have chosen a time zone that is suitable for you.
Secondly – clear 15 minutes of your schedule to fill out the initial application form.
Finally – wait for a member of the StudyCELTA team to get in contact with you, confirming they have processed your application and sent you a pre-interview task. This shouldn’t take more than 24 hours (unless it’s a weekend) but please get in contact with us if it’s longer.
When you have completed your pre-interview task and sent it back to us, we will screen it and, if successful, you will be invited to an interview.
