The CELTA course is a practical, hands-on teacher training course that prepares you for the classroom.
What to expect in the CELTA Course
The course is intensive and you will learn how to teach English to adults. The CELTA course is a practical, hands-on teacher training course that gives you a thorough grounding in teaching, classroom management skills, communicative methodology and the techniques necessary to teach English effectively and gain confidence in the classroom. The course is practical in its approach and includes:

The CELTA Course covers the following areas
- Language analysis and awareness of form, meaning, pronunciation
- Developing teaching skills in the classroom
- Techniques for presenting and practising new language
- Techniques for the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing
- Using teaching aids
- Identify opportunities for their own future development in the field.

CELTA Written Assignments and Assessment
Assessment is made through teaching practice sections and written assignments completed throughout the course. You will need to have strong written communication skills.
There are 4 written assignments that focus on:
- Analysing and responding to learners needs
- Analysing language for teaching purposes
- Teaching language skills
- Reflecting on classroom teaching

Do I need teaching experience to take the CELTA?
No. Prior teaching experience is not a necessary prerequisite to being accepted onto a CELTA course.
If you believe you meet the requirements to do the CELTA course, please complete our online application form. After completing your application form and any necessary pre-interview tasks your application will be assessed and, if all is satisfactory, you will be invited to an interview with the CELTA Course Tutor. The CELTA interview can be conducted in person or via video conferencing.

Can I do the course if English is not my first language?
Yes, but your English needs to be of a near-native level. This means that you need to have a command of English that allows you to complete all written assignments and teaching practice requirements to the University of Cambridge standards.
