TESOL Refresher Course: CLIL

Who is the CLIL Course for?

The CLIL courses are intended for non-native teachers who currently teach other subjects (i.e. history, mathematics, geography, etc) through English, or who intend to teach in this context.

We also welcome teachers who are about to start teaching their subjects through English. There are separate courses for primary and secondary teachers.

The CLIL course will help you to improve your command of English for classroom management and to acquire new ideas for teaching your subject in English.

Participants are expected to have a minimum age of 18 and a minimum intermediate level of English equivalent to B1/B2 level of English, or IELTS 6.0, or First Certificate Cambridge.

CLIL Course Content and Format

The course is designed for either primary or secondary school teachers who wish to integrate a CLIL approach in their classrooms and is very practical in content.

Consists of 20 x 45-minute sessions per week plus 5 hours per week of self-access study in the Multi-Media Centre.

The CLIL course takes place during June, July and August or at other times subject to a minimum of six participants.

As well as developing teachers’ English language skills, sessions will cover classroom English, key CLIL methodology, materials and lesson planning.

Much of the CLIL course will be devoted to developing CLIL materials related to teachers’ subjects.

For each course, the programme will be drawn from selected areas of methodology and language. Participants complete a pre-course questionnaire which allows us to focus on specific areas of methodology and language.
