TESOL Refresher Courses
The Refresher Courses called RC offer you the possibility of developing your insight into language teaching methodology and at the same time improving your command of English.
Entry Requirements
Minimum age: 18
Minimum level: Upper Intermediate level of English – equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or Cambridge First Certificate
Note: If the candidate doesn't have a certificate to prove his/her level of English, a level test can be arranged before enrolling for the course.
The sessions are designed for non-native speakers of English who have experience of teaching English as a foreign language or have gained a teaching qualification in their own country and are considering a career in English language teaching.
The courses bring together teachers from many different countries and present the opportunity for you to share ideas and experiences, which has proved a very popular feature of training at the training center.
TESOL Course Content
Course RC takes place during June, July and August or at other times subject to a minimum of six participants. It is designed for both primary and secondary school teachers, is very practical in content and consists of 20 x 45-minute sessions per week (i.e. 15 hours per week) of language improvement and methodology plus 5 hours per week of self-access study in the multi-media centre. You may also be able to attend teaching practice given by candidates studying for the University of Cambridge CELTA for 2 hours each afternoon.
For each self-contained week, the programme will be drawn from selected areas of methodology and language and, by completing a pre-course questionnaire you will also have the opportunity to add areas of methodology and language of your own choice. The following provides an indication of the range of topics available:
- overview of areas of grammar related to participants’ needs
- phonology: pronunciation practice, stress, rhythm and intonation
- current idiomatic use of English
- newspaper and other text study
