The English Teacher Training Center in Austin Texas forms part of a language center that offers a range of ESL classes to international students and the Austin Community. There are currently 42 teachers and the center offers over 120 language based courses per year. The Center boasts modern facilities, ideal for CELTA training. It is easy to get around walking, by bicycle, or by city bus, which is free for students. Trainees may also take advantage of the various work out facilities and libraries located across campus.

Our head resident trainer has a background in Spanish and international studies, with an M.A. and Ph.D. in foreign language education. He spent three years living and teaching in Costa Rica and one year in Ulsan, Korea.
An are he particulerly enjoys about teaching is assisting students in overcoming barriers to their learning. He is also interested in the intersection of social psychology and communal learning.
Accommodation
- Accommodation can be arranged upon request. Please let us know which type of accommodation you would prefer while doing the course with us.
- Students may choose to share a room at a nearby extended stay hotel in the downtown area for approximately $35/day (depending on the time of year,) = approximately $980 for four weeks.
- We may also be able to arrange for you to rent a room from a local at approximately $800/month.
Summer Accommodation Options (May, June, July Courses):
Summer applicants will have more housing options than those during the rest of the school year.
Housing near the CELTA Training Center
A variety of dorm and co-ops are located near the CELTA Center. Our center is located approximately 12 blocks from downtown. Below are examples of a couple that we work with specifically.
ICC Co-ops
Austin ICC Co-ops are located within a couple of blocks of the CELTA Center. Private or shared rooms are available, and you can rent them just for the dates of the program. Rates for one month are $474 for a double room and $576 for a private room, which includes food and utilities. There is a deposit of $175 and membership fees totaling $62.
University Towers
You can live above the CELTA Center offices. University Towers offers a shared room in a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment for $750 a month, a shared room in a 2bedroom/1bath for $690, or a shared bedroom in a 1 bedroom/1 bath for $800. University Towers dorms are ultra-modern and have just been remodeled.
Austin, Texas and Surroundings
Austin Texas just rolls off the tongue because it's one of those cities that form an intrinsic part of North American culture. It was originally a settlement named Waterloo, populated by immigrants from Germany, Sweden and Mexico. However periods of excellerated growth made it the renamed state capital in 1839. By 1883, Austin had become a college town with the founding of the University of Texas at Austin.
The city has a real buzz and is known as the "Live Music Capital of the World®". There is live music from the terminal at Austin's airport to everywhere in Austin. Musicians play in everything from grocery stores (Central Market, Whole Foods) to city council meetings. Name a music legend and you'll be hard pushed to find one who hasn't performed live in Austin.
Festivals and events include Blues on the Green series, Austin City Limits, South by Southwest, Pachanga Latino Musical Festival, Urban Music Festival, Fun, Fun, Fun Fest, Chaos in Tejas and many more.
We suggest that if you are a visitor to Austin, you should arrange to taste the sights, delights and sounds of Austin either before or after your CELTA course as you will not have time during the course to enjoy the tantalising amount of things to see and do here.
