TESOL Course Information
"English for TESOL Certificate" (TESOL Language Module / TESOL Skills Module)
A practical TESOL training course and language development course designed for students and teachers whose first language is not English and that want to become English language teachers.
Course structure:
- 2 modules, TESOL language and TESOL skills.
- Students can choose taking the two modules or just one of them.
- Course fee: AU $4.455 (or AU$2.230 per 5 week module)
- Enrolment fee: AU $200
Minimum entry requirements (English proficiency):
- Teacher Training Center TESOL entry test (level test), or, at least, TOEFL 500 (PBT) or 173 (CBT) or FCE (B) or IELTS 5.5.
- No experience required
The TESOL course provides excellent preparation for the Cambridge TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) - please read below about TKT. Students undertaking the TESOL course usually take the TKT after completion (TKT testing dates are the day after the TESOL course finishing dates)

TESOL Course Content
The program consists of two 5-week intensive modules which develop confidence in practical teaching techniques and language skills essential for English teachers. Modules can be taken separately and in either order. Candidates are awarded a certificate for each module. Those who successfully complete both modules are awarded the "English for TESOL" completion Certificate.
This 10-week "English for TESOL" course is excellent preparation for the 1-day University of Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT), administered by the Training Center.
Module A: TESOL Language module (5 weeks/125 hours)
TESOL Methodology
Participants learn practical teaching techniques and give teaching practice lessons. In particular, they learn how to give:
- Vocabulary lessons
- Grammar lessons
- Pronunciation lessons
- Reading lessons
- TESOL Teaching & Learning Principles English for Teachers
- Participants improve their own pronunciation, grammar, listening, reading, speaking & writing skills.
Module B: TESOL Skills Module (5 weeks/125 hours)
TESOL Methodology
Participants learn practical teaching techniques and give teaching practice lessons. In particular, they learn how to give:
- Speaking lessons
- Listening lessons
- Writing lessons
- Presentation & Research Skills for Teachers
- English for Teachers
- Participants improve their own pronunciation, grammar, listening, reading, speaking & writing skills.

University of New South Wales
The University of New South Wales offers a Master of Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics, which are available on campus in Sydney.
Credits are awarded on the basis of:
- The TESOL Certificate is credited for 1 out of 4 subjects of the Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics, and 1 out of 6 subjects of the MA in Applied Linguistics.
University of Wollongong
The University of Wollongong offers a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Education in TESOL. All programs can be taken on campus, or by distance education.
Credits are awarded on the basis of:
- The TESOL Certificate is credited for 1 out of 7 subjects of the Graduate Diploma in TESOL.
University of Canberra
The University of Canberra offers a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Arts in TESOL.
Credits are awarded on the basis of:
- The TESOL Certificate is credited for 1 out of 3 subjects of the Graduate Certificate or 1 o out of 6 subjects of the Graduate Diploma in TESOL. The Graduate Diploma is the normal prerequisite for the Masters program.

Fees:
Enrolment fee: AU $200

Cambridge TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test)
TKT is a new test from Cambridge University about teaching English to speakers of other languages. It aims to increase teachers' confidence and enhance job prospects by focusing on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers of primary, secondary or adult learners, anywhere in the world. This flexible and accessible award will help you to understand:
- different methodologies for teaching
- the 'language of teaching'
- the ways in which resources can be used
- the key aspects of lesson planning
- classroom management methods for different needs.
The Training Center in Australia (Sydney & Brisbane) offers the TKT.
TKT consists of 3 separate tests which can be taken separately or together. Each test consists of 80 questions and takes 80 minutes. By each TKT test that you may take (1, 2, or the 3 of them) you will be awarded with a Certificate.
TEST 1 (Module 1) - Language and background to language learning and teaching
- Describing language and language skills.
- Background to language learning.
- Background to language teaching.
TEST 2 (Module 2) - Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching
- Planning and preparing a lesson or sequence of lessons.
- Selection and use of resources and materials.
TEST 3 (Module 3) - Managing the teaching and learning process
- Teachers' and learners' language in the classroom.
- Classroom management.

The tests are taking over a period of 3 consecutive days(examination dates are suitable for those taking the TESOL course, after completing their TESOL course students undertake the TKT at the school).
Enrolling for the tests has a fee of AU$85 each test that you may enroll for, or AU$255 if you enrol and undertake the 3 TKT module tests.
All enrolments for the TKT must be received 7 weeks, at the latest, before the testing date.
