CELTA Course Content

The course is highly practical in emphasis and will require a lot of hard work and commitment from you.

It is designed to enable you to:

  1. develop your language awareness
  2. appreciate the cultural and individual needs of learners
  3. become familiar with the principles and practice of effective English language teaching
  4. develop basic skills for teaching adults
  5. identify and exploit appropriate resources and materials
  6. identify opportunities for future professional development

You will be kept fully informed of your progress and will have the opportunity to discuss your work in detail during your individual tutorials.

The CELTA is awarded to those who pass each of the two assessed components of the course:

  1. Planning and teaching
  2. Classroom-related written assignments

The assessment is validated by an external assessor, appointed by Cambridge, who visits the course to assess the general standard of the course work. There is no final practical or written examination.

With your certificate we provide a written report, indicating your strengths and weaknesses, and certificates and reports are sent out approximately one month after the end of the course, when the results have been validated by Cambridge.

When emailing the documents, attaching an updated version of the prospective trainees CV is also necessary.

Applicants who have satisfactorily completed the application package and tasks included in it may be invited to attend an interview shortly after this date at the school or on the telephone (at your own cost) if you are overseas.

Successful applicants will receive an "offer of a place" on the course of their choice immediately, if there is a place available.

After receiving an invoice from the School, the deposit must be paid within 7 days of the place being offered in order to secure your place.

The balance is due 4 weeks, at the latest, before the course starts, depending on the date of acceptance.
